Over the past 20 years the sport of cyclocross in North Carolina has grown. North Carolina is now recognized as one of the nation's hotbeds for cyclocross. The NC Cyclo-Cross season begins in the middle of October and runs through the end of January. The North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series is the premier series in the state. The season features the North Carolina Cyclo-Cross State Championships and the UCI North Carolina Grand Prix. In 2005, the North Carolina Cyclocross made a big step towards hosting "big time" racing as it held the North Carolina Grand Prix, the first UCI sanctioned cyclo-cross races south of the Nation's capitol. In 2016 the NCGP will be celebrating it's 11th year at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC. North Carolina Cyclo-Crross also brought what has been called "the best nationals ever" to life hosting the 2016 USA Cycling Cyclo-Cross National Championships on the grounds on Biltmore Estate with the Asheville Buncome Regional Sports Commission and a whole host of dedicated volunteers and supporters
